Serving the spiritual and academic needs of our children since 1958
School News...

If we wish to love God and serve our neighbor well,
We must manifest our joy in the service we render to Him and to them,
Let us open wide our hearts.
It is Joy which invites us.
Press forward and fear nothing.”
-St. Katherine Drexel

How appropriate is this quote from St. Katherine Drexel (Feast Day March 3rd) as we continue on our Lenten journey during this month of March.
MATH LEEAGUE
On February 23rd the Math League competition was held for our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Over one million students from the United States and Canada participate in Math League contests each year. Every contest has questions from different areas of mathematics. The goal is to encourage student’s interest and confidence in mathematics through solving “worthwhile” problems. Thank you to Mrs. Venezia for organizing and getting the students excited for this competition. The following are the results of this year’s competition: Grade 6 top scorers are James, Kevin, David, Elise and top scorer is Jodi Graf. Grade 7: Chris, Megan, Andrew, Maria and top scorer is Kelly. Grade 8: Rosanella, Andrew, Shannon, Sheila and top scorer is Tricia. Congratulations to all our top scorers!
Statistics Poster Competition
We are pleased to announce that our school (grades 1-8) will participate in the 2010 Pennsylvania Statistics Poster Competition. This is the 3rd year of our participation in the contest. We are proud to say that during the last two years our school has had two winners. Thank you to Mrs. Venezia for getting the entire school excited about this competition.

Thank You
Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hammel for their donation of $6000 to St. Teresa of Avila School academic program. We have been looking to purchase a new reading series and this donation will help tremendously for us to reach that goal. It is through the generosity of so many of our STA families that we can offer these new and innovative materials. Thank You! Thank You!
Change in After School Schedule
Please remember to send a note to your child's teacher if his/her after school schedule changes. We need to have this information. Therefore, your child must have a written note for their teacher in the morning as to any activity or change of transportation. If there is no note, then we will assume he/she will go on their regular mode of transportation home.
Notice to Parents
When the weather is too cold and too windy, we do not take the children outside for recess. However, when it is cold but not too bad outside, we do let them outside for some fresh air. However, so many of the children are not dressed appropriately. Please see that your child comes to school dressed in a heavy coat, hat and gloves. This will go a long way in making them comfortable outdoors.

“In Catholic school, there is no separation between time for learning and time for formation, between acquiring knowledge and growing in wisdom. The various school subjects do not present only knowledge to be attained, but also values to be acquired and truths to be discovered.”
