3rd Grade
Class News
The Third grade LEARNING ZONE is a busy place. We are working hard and achieving our goals! It's hard to believe, but the end of the year is fast approching. We are taking this time to review all of the topics we learned throughout this school year.
Religion
We continue to share the many ways in which we can help to make the Kingdom of God grow. Now we know it's easy to say we will do these things, but it's more important to do IT!! Help us make the Kingdom of God grow here on Earth through kind words and actions :)
Reading
Reading silently, aloud, and listening to others read are all very important parts of becoming excellent readers. Make sure to ask questions about what is being read to you and have questions be asked of what you read too! Don't forget all of the comprehension strategies learned this year remember: summarize what you read or heard; make inferences about what characters are like by using clues from the story, determine what is fact and opinion, understand why the author wrote the story and his or her point of view.
Spelling & Vocabulary
We are becoming spelling masters this year by not only knowing how to spell a word but knowing it's meaning, how to use it in a sentence, and creating lists of synonyms and antonyms. Check out www.sadlier-oxford.com for extra practice with the vocabulary words. Games like hangman and wordsearches will help us remember the meanings of the words.
Writing
Writing folders will guide us through the writing process of pre-write, draft, edit, revision, and publish. Peer editing and teacher meeting will also help us to improve our skills. We are working on persuasive writing.
Math
Geometry is a breeze for us. There is so much to a single shape like it's edge, face, vertex, area, perimeter, and so much more!
Social Studies
So many of the things we have at home were manufactured in a different country. We created charts to show from where items in our house came. Thank goodness for the global marketplace and factories that allow us to have all of our wonderful things!
Science
The World of Living Things is a great place to be. Understanding development, environment, responses, communication, migration, hibernation, life cycles, metamorphosis, inherited/learned traits are helping us to become experts on living things.
Updates
The third graders have big and loving hearts! We have selected the Ronald McDonald House as our mission this year. We hope to bring love, happiness, and laughter to the families Ronald McDonald House helps. Our efforts in the Read for Ronald Program have raised over 1, 000 dollars! Thank you to all of the participants. The top fundraisers are invited to a celebration reception at the ROnald McDonald House and received tickets to see a 76ers game! We are continuing to collect soda tabs for the house so send them along when you have a bag or more full. We are little but we are mighty, and we can make a positive difference in this world!
