Serving the spiritual and academic needs of our children since 1958
8th Grade
Religion
We continue our study of Church History. We have made great progress throughout the year. It is an overwhelming amount of content, but we were up to the task. Our greatest accomplishment, however, was never losing sight of the "message" behind the material! We have spent a lot of time in prayer, and we have matured spiritually since September.
Language Arts
Whew! We have covered every grammar requirement the Diocese mandates! Without sounding too haughty, we know our stuff! We are particularly proud of our Literary Magazine. We took all the submissions and typed them. We collated them, and then we illustrated them. It was quite an undertaking, but we couldn't be more proud. We hope you all enjoy this gift from the Eighth Grade and our Student Writers!
Social Studies
We finished our study of the Civil Rights Movement with a special guest speaker. John Noakes, PhD., a sociology professor from Arcadia University, spent the morning with us. Dr. Noakes is an expert in the field, and he really brought the era to life. We were amazed at the extraordinary courage of the freedom fighters as they struggled to insure equality for all Americans. We will continue our study of American history until school's end, but we will enjoy the "test-free" remaining days!
Student Council
Student Council is closing out the year with yet another service project. Under the leadership of our Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Sarah, we will be contributing to the Catie's Wish Foundation. Catie was a brave seven year old who died of an unusual pediatric cancer. Her wish was to contribute the operating cost of running St. Jude's Research Hospital for one day. She had hoped to do this annually. So far, her dream has been realized, and we are thrilled to be part of her mission. Watch for our purple bracelets as testament to her strength and grace! A message from Mrs. Martino and Mrs. O'Shea: Thanks to all members of the 2009-2010 Council. Your final public work, recitation of the rosary throughout the month of May, was a fitting tribute to Mary, our mother, and served as witness to your leadership and faith. Blessings on your summer!
Eighth Grade
It is time for us to say farewell. We are actively working on our Graduation Liturgy. The yearbook has been delivered. The Literary Magazine is ready for distribution, and those pesky water balloons are just waiting for us! It is a bittersweet time here in our classroom, but it is time for us to go. We are ready. We are excited, but our excitement is tinged with a bit of melancholy. We extend our deepest gratitude to all of you who have helped us reach this place. Pray for us as we make our way to the next stage of our young lives!
